October 18, 2013

COQUITLAM, B.C. (October 2, 2013) – As announced on July 3, 2013, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (GCGC) is renovating and rebranding Boulevard Casino to become the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver with plans to unveil the new brand and renovations in late 2013. As part of the property’s transformation, the Red Robinson Show Theatre will be renamed at that time to align the theatre with the new Hard Rock Casino branding.

Since its opening in 2006, the theatre has become a well-known and respected venue for live entertainment in Metro Vancouver.  “Great Canadian Gaming wishes to thank Mr. Robinson for his involvement, dedication and contribution over the years. As we move forward we will continue to recognize and honour Mr. Robinson’s incredible musical and broadcast history with a memorabilia showcase at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver,” said Peter Goudron, Senior Vice President, Operations – West, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation.

Red Robinson’s legacy dates back to the 1950’s when he started his career as the first DJ to play Rock and Roll music in Canada. With numerous career highlights, some of the best and most memorable moments included meeting the legendary Buddy Holly and being the official emcee for Elvis’s appearance in Vancouver. Perhaps his proudest achievement was his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio in 1995. With such a robust radio and broadcast career, Robinson continues to dedicate his time to his passion and hosts a weekly show on AM650, Red Rock Diner.

“It is great to have been personally recognized at such an iconic venue as the theatre at the Boulevard Casino,” said Robinson. “I wish everyone associated with the new Hard Rock Casino Vancouver the best of success as they launch the new property and I look forward to some of my memorabilia being showcased as part of the musical collection that will be so important to the new facility.”

The 1100 seat theatre opened on September 16, 2006 with a performance by Little Richard. Over the years, the theatre hosted a wide variety of acts including performances by Tony Bennett, Paul Anka, Julio Iglesias, Adam Lambert, comedians Jay Leno, Bill Maher and many others.
